8" x 24" oil on canvas painting of the Mach 3 bomber that never made it into production. This is the surviving first one build, that ended up being a high speed research aircraft for NASA after the bomber contract was cancelled. The second, even more advanced airplane, unfortunately was lost after a F-104 flew too close during a photo-op and collided with it. This airplane is now on display at the USAF museum in Dayton, Ohio.
Douglas Castleman is an award-winning artist and photographer based in Los Angeles (Torrance, California). His aerospace art has garnered the American Society of Aviation Artist (ASAA) Artist Fellow status, and some of his paintings are in the collections at the US Air Force Art Collection (Pentagon) and the NASA Permanent Art Collection (Neil Armstrong Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base, California). Douglas specializes in landscape, aviation and marine subjects and photography. His oil paintings, watercolor and pencil (graphite) works are part of collections around the world.
