Artist's Description

12" x 24" oil on panel painting, depicting a formation that never happened...These are the USAF second-generation, supersonic fighters that started with the F-100.
From left to right, clockwise: The F-101, the F-106, the F-107 (which didn't win a contract with the Air Force, but three prototypes did fly so it is included here), the F-105, the F-104, the F-102, and the F-100. Other designs in the series that didn't get past the mock-up stage, and aren't included here: The F-103, F-108, and the F-109. There was a F-110, but that quickly was renamed the F-4C, and was the first of the third generation fighters, so it isn't included.

His aerospace art has garnered the American Society of Aviation Artist (ASAA) Artist Fellow status, and some of his paintings are in the collections at the US Air Force Art Collection (Pentagon) and the NASA Permanent Art Collection (Neil Armstrong Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base, California). Douglas specializes in landscape, aviation and marine subjects and photography. His oil paintings, watercolor and pencil (graphite) works are part of collections around the world.
