12" x 24" oil on panel painting of the Mitsubishi fighter plane of World War 2. This is the very latest in my series of these airplanes currently flying at Airshows. (These take far longer than most, as I go all-out with detail.) This fine and super rare example is owned by the Planes of Fame, Chino, California. Captured on Saipan in 1944, this still retains the original Nakajima Sakai engine and still has some bullet holes inside the fuselage. The logbook shows that Charles Lindberg flew this during the war.
Douglas Castleman is an award-winning artist and photographer based in Los Angeles (Torrance, California). His aerospace art has garnered the American Society of Aviation Artist (ASAA) Artist Fellow status, and some of his paintings are in the collections at the US Air Force Art Collection (Pentagon) and the NASA Permanent Art Collection (Neil Armstrong Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base, California).
